Systems Modeling Language (SysML) is the standard modeling language used with Model-Based Systems Engineering projects.

Typically, a System Modeling Language (SML) provides tools for representing a system in both textual and visual modalities. A key to successful model construction is choosing the appropriate SML.

SysML, which is based on the older UML, uses the concept of the “block” as the basic unit structure to represent hardware, software, information, personnel, procedures and facilities. Block definition diagrams and internal block diagrams are used to represent a system structure.

Blocks can describe any level of the system hierarchy, from single components up to the top-level system. There are two types of structural diagrams for blocks depiction: Block Definition Diagram and Internal Block Diagram. Block Definition Diagram describes the relationships among blocks, such as associations, dependencies and generalizations. It specifies system hierarchy and classifications. The Internal Block Diagram represents the internal structure of a block using block properties and connectors between properties. This diagram specifies interconnection of parts.

A Parametric Diagram has also been introduced into SysML. By providing the ability to express constrains between properties, a Parametric Diagram enables integration of engineering analysis, such as performance and reliability models with SysML design models. The constraints (equations), including the underlying parameters, are captured in Constraint Block constructs.

An Allocation Relationship is also supported within SysML which represents allocating functions to components, logical to physical components, and software to hardware.

SysML Training

Learning any new language is challenging, whether it is a natural language (e.g., Japanese, Swahili, English) or an engineering language such as SysML.

Tonex offers a 3-day SysML Training course (worth 24 college credits) and many more related courses designed for students, systems engineers, system modelers, system architects, software engineers, system integrators, analysts and designers, product developers, project leaders and project heads.

This popular SysML training course covers a wide range of topics including:

  • A comprehensive overview of the SysML concepts, terminology and modeling notation
  • Creating analysis and design models with SysML
  • Covering the complete system-modeling lifecycle from requirements to validation of the system
  • Presenting many practical case studies

Why Take This Course From Tonex?
