QFD training also teaches you all the calculation and data collecting methods required for the four phases of QFD process. Through this hands-on seminar, you will also learn how to design strong products and services, how to document process design policies, and how to develop effective control and maintenance systems.

What is Quality Function Deployment (QFD)?

A systematic methodology to identify the customer’s needs, specifications, and expectation and then translate them into measurable plans to design and produce the products that satisfy the customers.

Origin of QFD

QFD was first created and developed in Japan in 1966 by Dr. Yoji Akao. Dr. Akao described the QFD as “a method wily to transform qualitative user demands into quantitative parameters, to deploy the functions forming quality, and to deploy methods for achieving the design quality into subsystems and component parts, and ultimately to specific elements of the manufacturing process”.

QFD’s Applications

  • Is used in diverse applications including variety of services, products, military needs, and developing technology goods.
  • Is applied in the ISO 9000:2000, which is concentrated on the customer’s needs and satisfaction.

Benefits of QFD

  • It clarifies the difference between the customer’s “true need” from the customer’s wants
  • It sates the customer’s perspective regarding the value of a service of a product
  • It enlightens how customers get attracted, select, and become satisfied
  • It identifies which features should and which shouldn’t be included
  • It determines the sufficient level of performance required to satisfy the customer
  • It transfers the customer’s needs and wants into measurable actions through design, develop, produce, and service
