LTE Location Based Services Training

5G Location-Based Services Training, 5G Geo-Information Engineering

LTE Location Based Services Training course covers Location Based Services (LBS) defined for 3GPP LTE. Learn how to use the location of the UE for commercial applications, public safety, emergency services (E911,) and infotainment such as map services or local advertising/information.

Assisted Global Positioning System (AGPS)  assists GPS-enabled LTE UE to improve the performance of their GPS receivers by providing it with assistance information providing the highest accuracy method and technique. AGPS method lacks reliability in indoors, dense urban or high-rise building. In a hybrid method, AGPS can be supplemented with other available techniques such as Observed Time Difference of Arrival (OTDOA) or Enhanced Cell ID (ECID) described below.

In LTE networks, a UE  can  typically be localized to its serving eNode B (eNB) to the specific cell or sector within the eNB. This method has the lowest accuracy but easy to implement, highly scalable, reliable and available.

If the UE position is localized to a finer level compared to CID, additional radio-related measurements have to be used. The eCID method has low accuracies depending on the size of the cell and area, but an easy method is easy to implement.

LTE Observed Time Difference of Arrival (OTDOA) method in the other hand uses the measured timing of downlink signals received from multiple eNBs to locate the UE according to the neighboring eNBs. OTDOA can be supplement AGPS in dense urban and indoor areas where UE can detect position reference signals (PRS) from three or more eNBs.

Uplink time difference-of-arrival (UTDOA) is a newer method and technique offering minimal impact on air interface resources.

Upon completion of LTE Location Based Services Training course, the attendees  will be able to:
