It is expected that 5G-Advanced will offer 20% higher data rates compared to 5G through innovations.
5G-Advanced is also expected to enhance today’s XR experience by expanding the reach of VR and immersive AR applications and the cloud gaming experience.
This is exciting news for gamers because 5G-Advanced should offer users a superior XR experience while on the move, truly enabling a high-data-rate experience.
This enhanced application awareness helps to move the XR processing load from the device into the network cutting down on the cost, size, and power of user equipment. This could grant users the true perception of being in a remote environment and allow them to efficiently interact in such surroundings, no matter where they are physically located.
5G-Advanced introduces several new features to the commercial landscape, silently increasing business opportunities in both consumer and enterprise domains – improvements over 5G that will likely help further monetize 5G technology.
5G-Advanced introduces further improvements to the air interface, in both downlink and uplink communications. These include more advanced combinations of different frequencies, New Radio Multiple Input, Multiple Output (NR-MIMO) evolution and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) in the air interface, as well as the introduction of Millimeter Wave (mmWave) enhancements.
These improvements will likely push top speeds to 10 Gigabits per Second (Gbps) in the downlink and 1 Gbps in the uplink, paving the way for advanced use cases that include Extended Reality (XR), live broadcast and even holographic communications that are being discussed as a key use case for 6G.
Many feel 5G-Advanced will become a sort of steppingstone between 5G and 6G technologies. 5G-Advanced could appear as early as 2024.
