For systems engineers, Systems Modeling Language (SysML) basically helps in representing system-related information in universally accepted dynamic diagrams.

Before software, systems engineering requirements were documented in sets. In a small system that’s not too difficult to do without too many errors. But with larger systems that’s not an easy task.

The advantage of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and SysML is the ability to create models/diagrams for the system instead of using documents. When the systems engineer defines or creates something in a diagram, the SysML tool maintains consistency in all the other diagrams in a process called traceability.

Learning the language of SysML (like learning any new language) can be the most difficult part of the MBSE assimilation process. It requires a different perspective on the communication process with other systems engineer team members.

Take the term “actor” for example. In the lexicon of SysML, actor refers to anything a system interacts with, whether it is a user, another system or the environment. Actors are important in the realm of context diagrams, which define the boundaries (context) of a system. Content diagrams scope out the system under consideration. By defining the system and its actors you essentially identify salient relationships resulting in important requirements and interfaces.

Without the context diagram it’s very easy to overlook actors, which would mean you could come up short on your system requirements.

The usefulness of SysML in MBSE is that when done properly it reduces ambiguity, requires shorter development cycles, reduces costs and leads to better, higher quality overall results.

Systems Modeling Language Training Classes

Tonex offers a 3-day SysML Training Crash Course. The SysML Training Crash Course helps you to make the appropriate architectural design of the system on the basis of your needs.

SysML Training Course provides a technical details of SysML as a systems engineering modeling language. The syntax of SysML is covered and each concept is explained through a number of hands-on practical application workshops and a complete SysML v1.3 Reference Guide.

Tonex also offers a related course, the 3-day Hands-On MBSE Training / Creating SysML Models Workshop.

Who Should Attend

The SysML Training course is designed for students, systems engineers, system modelers, system architects, software engineers, system integrators, analysts and designers, product developers, project leaders and project heads.

This SysML seminar is worth 24 college credits.
