Our planet is at crossroads. Progress is being made at reducing our carbon footprint, but for renewable power to trend in the right direction, intelligent decisions need to be made.
About a fifth of the world’s electricity is now produced by renewable energy. In 2016, there were 160GW of clean energy installations globally — about 10 percent more than in 2015.
Eighteen percent of all electricity in the United States was produced by renewable sources in 2017, including solar, wind and hydroelectric dams. That’s up from 15 percent in 2016.
Also importantly, the cost of renewable energy sources is falling – almost a quarter less than a few years ago. For many countries, renewable energy is now the cheapest source of power and the cost will likely continue to decline. This is especially good news for emerging energy giants such as China and India, countries that have fortunately set steep capacity installation targets over the next 15 years.
Other countries, like Costa Rica, already have renewable energies supplying the majority of energy needs and have made commitments to be totally carbon-free without a few years.
But challenges remain – many of them. At the forefront is the continued development of a smart grid with viable storage solutions.
It is also important to address the need for changing of load demand. While renewable energy generation from time variable sources keeps increasing, end-user interactions through smart grid development and the adoption of smart appliances lead to significant changes in consumer behavior. What this means is renewable energy generation must be curtailed more frequently when the expected demand is surpassed.
On the other hand, demand side measures need to be considered more thoroughly so that appropriate capacity limits for new generation units can be defined. The effects of load shifts are crucial for decision makers since investments in additional renewable energy capacities can be limited and back-up capacities can be reduced.
Renewable Energy Training — A Key
More than ever before, there is a need for people well trained and current in the field of renewable energy sources. That’s why Tonex now offers two courses in Renewable Energy training:
Participants in the 4-day Renewable Energy Certificate course learn about a wide array of topics such as:
- The impact of renewables in electric utilities
- Renewable energy markets
- The operation of offshore wind farms
- Different types of transmission systems for energy
- Renewable energy and green building entrepreneurship
- Fundamentals of renewable energy and electricity trading and hedging
Who Should Attend?
Anyone with a broad interest in developing renewable energy technologies who wishes to gain the fundamental understanding of the technologies available.
This includes energy and facility managers, engineers, program and project managers, financial, consultants, local government planners and those working in an entirely different sector considering a change in career path.
All delegates and participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion of this program.
The Tonex Way
–Presenting highly customized learning solutions is what we do. For over 30 years Tonex has worked with organizations in improving their understanding and capabilities in topics often with new development, design, optimization, regulations and compliances that, frankly, can be difficult to comprehend.
–Ratings tabulated from student feedback post-course evaluations show an amazing 98 percent satisfaction score.
–Reasonably priced classes taught by the best trainers is the reason all kinds of organizations from Fortune 500 companies to government’s most important agencies return for updates in courses and hands-on workshops
