Project Management Professional (PMP)®
There’s the ongoing misconception that project management is simply about tasks, timings and budgets.
Project management, of course, is about those things, but so much more as well. Progressive companies understand that good project management is important for stronger results and happier employees.
A certified project manager gets paid well because of the large skill set required and immense responsibilities that often result in a company’s bottom line success or failure.
Of utmost importance, project management is a way to help your team track all of the work being done in order to meet a project’s requirements on time. But within the broad category of project management, there are additional types, methodologies, and approaches.
Most of the issues that impact a project result in one way or another from risk. A good project manager can lessen risk through excellent communications and ensuring every significant participant has an opportunity to express opinions and concerns.
Project managers need to plan and control many areas of a project. To do so they need a set of project management skills which consists of personality traits, soft skills and technical or hard skills.
Hard skills, also known as technical skills are those project management skills that can be learned through education or training.
Soft skills are all those which are not learned through formal education or training. Some of these are part of someone’s personality, or are developed through the years.
Personality traits, per se, are not skills, but traits that are beneficial for the project manager role.
According to the consultancy firm Bain & Company, by 2027 most work will be project-based.
Consequently, the Project Management Institute reports that the demand for project managers has been growing more rapidly than the demand for skilled workers in other occupations.
This emphasis on the importance of project managers reflects the growing understanding of the impact that good project management can have on a business.
