Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) focuses on several arenas of intelligence gathering such as communications between people, known as communications intelligence (COMINT).

Signals Intelligence is also useful for gathering information from electronic signals not directly in communication. This modality is known as electronic intelligence (ELINT).

In an ELINT SIGINT (Signals Intelligence) operation, intelligence analysts have the ability to intercept phone calls and communications data. This information often provides assessments on the activities of targets.

Usually SIGINT targets are chosen due to their access to information, or their involvement in certain activities.

With the ability to intercept phone calls and communications data, intelligence analysts have the means to analyze the information available and provide assessments on the activities of their targets.

Based on the region, the Signals Intelligence market is segmented into five parts such as North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America and the Middle East & Africa. Of these, North America is expected to dominate the global SIGINT market due to improving defense forces and developing more technologically-advanced SIGINT systems.

Additionally, the increase in military support to other countries and increasing terrorism are the major factors driving the North American SIGINT market. The U.S. government has taken initiatives to implement advanced Signals Intelligence systems for naval, land and air forces.
